The Dusk Elves

A subspecies of elf believed to be essentially extinct in the world beyond Barovia. In Barovia, a small number of survivors remain — all male — housed in the low buildings at the base of the hill at the Vallaki Vistani Camp.

History

The Dusk Elves were destroyed by Strahd at some point in the past. All women of the race are dead. The surviving men came to the Vistani over a century ago when the camp was led by a clan chief named Belikov, who took them in as refugees with warmth. They stayed and became part of the camp's community.

Belikov's descendants are not Belikov. The current Vistani who control the camp outside Vallaki — Luvash and Arigal — maintain the Dusk Elves' residence partly as a Strahd-aligned arrangement: the Dusk Elves are watched, contained, and kept from leaving.

Casimir, the eldest among them, expects to outlive the current Vistani leadership and see better days, though he cannot say what those look like from here.

Identification

Recognized by Celeste on a History check of 17 (Merich used inspiration for his roll). Key features: dark skin and dark hair, angular features resembling wood elves. Previously believed extinct outside Barovia; the discovery that survivors exist here was unexpected.

Relationship with the Party

Casimir met Merich and Celeste in Session 11. He was civil and informative. He was observed muttering to something the party could not see.
