Durst Windmill
clearedDurst Windmill
A windmill west of Vallaki on a promontory above a fog-filled valley. The Durst family owned it; the deed was found in the hidden study of Death House. The deed remains in the party's possession, making them the technical new owners of a building that was grinding children into flour until they arrived.
Layout
- Ground floor — makeshift kitchen; filthy; brick oven; open barrel (used to summon a dretch); ornate painted cabinet; peddler's cart; chicken coop; heavy trunk
- Second floor — cramped circular room; central gear shaft; wooden closet (held crated children); moldy bed; ladder to attic trapdoor
- Attic — domed chamber; old machinery; bird's nests; ring found here
What Happened Here
Three hags — Ulrika, Bella, and Ofelia — ran a bone-grinding operation using the mill to produce dream flour for the dream pies originally sold by Old Bonegrinder in the village. Bones came from children. Two children (a girl ~5, a boy ~7) were found crated on the second floor, alive.
The party cleared two of the three hags. Ofelia escaped via heartstone to the Ethereal Plane and remains unaccounted for.
Behind the Windmill
Six standing stones and a large earthen mound. Five stones cracked and dark; one shorter stone glows silver. The mound was sealed until the hags died — each death cracked the earth further. After the third death, the mound opened. Growling and glinting eyes observed inside. See: The Standing Stones of Old Bonegrinder.
