Henrik van der Voort
aliveHenrik van der Voort
Status: Alive — handed to town guards at the Festival of the Blazing Sun; fate unclear
Known Information
The coffin-maker of Vallaki. Danica describes him as a mediocre carpenter and a troubled, lonely man. His full name was provided by Danica when Brother Moro asked about him.
His shop is in the southeastern portion of Vallaki, not all the way east. He has occasional dealings with St. Andrew's Church through Father Lucian — normal professional contact given the trade — but Blinsky observed that Milovaj has been visiting Henrik's shop far more frequently than recent death rates in Vallaki would explain.
What He Confessed
When interrogated by the party in Session 13, Henrik admitted: - The vampire spawn in his attic were sent by Strahd - His arrangement was money and protection - His shop was being used as a teleportation staging zone (ritual circle scratched into the floor) - He had given the bones of St. Andrew to the vampires - He did not know where Milovaj was; last saw him three days ago
He cried throughout. He was not physically coerced. He appeared genuinely broken rather than evasive.
Threads
- Turned over to town guards at the town square; guards were skeptical and consoling rather than investigative; his legal fate is unresolved
- His connection to Milovaj and the bones is now explained — Milovaj likely brought the bones here, Henrik passed them to the vampires; but what Milovaj knew or was promised is still unknown
Notable Moments
- Session 11: Named by Blinsky as Milovaj's recent frequent haunt; his shop identified as the next lead in the bones investigation
- Session 12: Party entered via broken back window (Sleight of Hand nat 20); found 13 coffins on the ground floor and six vampire spawn in crates on the second; Henrik was in the downstairs room shouting at the party to go away, then weeping; has not yet been interrogated
- Session 13: Interrogated; confessed to Strahd arrangement and teleportation ring; handed to town guards by Merich during the Festival of the Blazing Sun; guards took him aside and let him cry on their vests
