Lake Baratok

A cold mountain lake enclosed by misty woods and rocky bluffs, northwest of Vallaki along the dirt path that branches off the Old Svalich Road. Thick fog creeps across the dark, still water. At midday it still looks like late afternoon.

A grass-covered causeway stretches approximately a hundred yards from the shoreline to a flat marshy island in the center.

The Island

The island holds an ancient stone tower — old and partially crumbling, with scaffolding clinging to a section where a large gash has split the outer wall. Moss-covered griffin statues perch atop buttresses. The entrance is a large door at the base.

What Was Found Here

A barrel-topped wagon was parked near the base of the causeway during Session 14: purple paint, gold trim wheels, brass corner lanterns, red drapes over tombstone-shaped windows. Padlocked rear door. Sign: Keep Out. No horses present, though the wagon's size implied a team. A hidden trapdoor on the underbelly gave access to the interior.

Brother Moro triggered a booby-trapped alchemist fire flask inside while attempting to disarm it. The wagon and all its contents were destroyed. The party took a long rest on the causeway after.
