Description

Sable Burrowbane is a small dark-furred rabbit person who moves through the world like a crossbow bolt with opinions. She finds most situations funny and most enemies findable in the dark, which is roughly all the preparation she needs.

Her operating procedure is consistent: get into shadow, put a bolt through whatever needs bolting, and leave before anyone can establish her as a target. She is very good at this. Enemies who fail to account for her tend to find out about her specifically one time, briefly, and then not again. She has a +1 hand crossbow named Gossip and the restraint to fire it only when she has perfect information and a favorable angle, which in practice means she fires it constantly.

Sable is not cruel, but she is extremely practical. When a Vistani ambush went poorly for the ambushers, she made a clean decision about loose ends and moved on. She knelt by the first body. She did not linger. When a party member was put under a suggestion spell without her consent, she extracted a sworn agreement from everyone present before agreeing to help with anything again. She described this as reasonable. The party agreed it was reasonable. It was reasonable.

She has a known policy of experimenting on herself when she finds something she doesn't understand. She harvested paralytic sap from a dead forest boss and injected it into her own arm to confirm the effect. She confirmed it. She then decided she would deliver this more efficiently with arrows in the future. This counts as both a problem solved and a lesson learned.

She prefers sleeping in trees to inns. The tree did not work out as well as hoped, but she maintains it was the correct decision in principle.

Sable's overall vibe is that of a professional who is quietly amused by the gap between what everyone else thinks is happening and what is actually happening. She is usually the only one who knows what is actually happening.
