Description
Celeste is an elven warlock who approaches the world with calm curiosity and the bone-deep conviction that if something seems interesting, it's worth investigating directly. This has produced excellent results and at least one level of exhaustion.
Her familiar is a Sphinx of Wonder that manifests as a skeleton cat. It licks itself. It has a passive perception of four, which means it finds nothing when deployed as a scout, but sits in the center of the room appearing unbothered, which communicates something. Ghost children love it. Vampires attack it. It has been frightened, grappled, crushed under a falling boss monster, and killed by the Nightmare Lumber King before being resummoned after a long rest. Celeste sometimes forgets the cat is on the battlefield. The cat seems fine with this arrangement.
She wears a ring called the Dream Weaver's Thorn that deals four points of poison damage to her every morning. She was informed of this effect before she put it on. She keeps wearing it on the grounds that it also stores the poison for later use, and the stored dose is approaching something more interesting. This is correct, technically.
In a hag's windmill, Celeste's cat pried open a painted cabinet and revealed three unlabeled concoctions. She took all three. One turned out to be a beauty potion. One was cackle fever. One was a contact poison. She has not explained what her plan was.
In combat Celeste deals steady damage from range, uses Misty Step to exit bad situations, and finishes what needs finishing. She delivered the killing blow on the Nightmare Lumber King with a readied Eldritch Blast the moment it surfaced. Her cat killed the cryptid in the vineyard with radiant damage, which bypassed its resistances. The cat has a better record than its circumstances suggest.
Celeste has a Queen of Hearts reading from Madam Eva that she has not mentioned to the party. She is the kind of person who files that away and continues.
